교란된 상실 Manipulated loss 작가노트에서
인간이 존재하는 동안 수많은 흔적이 남고 지워진다.
인간 뿐만 아니라 모든 물질의 흔적은 인상이 되고, 그 인상이 사라지는 순간까지 우리는 기억하게 된다. 존재의 가치와 무가치 사이에서 우리가 기록할 수 있는 것은 무엇인가
비워진 자리를 채울 수 있는 것은 우리의 기억과 생각 뿐이다. 가치의 무게나 무가치의 열등감이 필요하지 않고 다만 추억할 수 있도록 되새기는 것이다.
모든 영원은 없다. 없는 영원성을 기리기 위해 노력할 수 있는 것은 현존하는 것을 남기는 것이다. 현실이거나 진실된 감정이지만 illusion이다.
처음 내가 표현하고자 시도한 것은 emptiness 즉, zero의 상태였다.
그러나 이미 이 세상에 완벽한 zero는 존재하기 어렵다. 모든 것은 원인에 따른 답이고 이런 원인의 끈은 끊임없이 순환의 띠를 만들고 있다. 우리는 지속적으로 끝날 수 없는 순환
을 지켜내기 위해 노력하고 있는 것이다. 그 순간을 기록하는 방법으로 선택한 것이 무언가를 둘러싸고 있는 천이다.
우리는 사용하지 않거나 생이 사멸된 것을 천으로 덮거나 둘러싼다.
포장의 의미라기 보다는 가리는 것일지도 모르겠다. 가려줌으로 존재의 가치를 올리기도 한다.
다른 뜻에서의 천을 열정을 담고 있다. 그것이 欲情이든, 性이든…기본적인 인간의 욕정을 부끄러운 시선으로 둘러싸기 위해 천을 이용했다. 물론 천을 매개로 하는 작업은 의미 전
달수단의 한정성을 갖는다. 지금의 천은 곧 다른 물질로 대체될 수 있다. 흔들리면 사라지는 물이 될 수도 있고, 존재하지만 잡을 수 없는 바람이 될 수도 있다.
내게 있는 또 다른 내 모습을 투영한 illusion은 꽃의 이중성이다. 아름답고 사랑스러운 존재의 극치와 다르게 번식의 기본적 욕망을 숨긴채 일그러진 모습을 꽃 속의 씨방까지 포함
하고 있다. 그 화려하고 열정적인 모습 이후 가장 흉물스런 최후를 아주 쉽게 보여준다. 이 또한 이중적 상실이다. 누구나 그렇듯이 그동안 내 자신도 벌이나 나비인양 꽃의 화려한
색과 흐드러진 자태에 열광했던 때가 있었다. 그 끝을 인정하려 하지 않았고, 상실의 허무함을 직시하지 못했다. 그러나 어느 순간 진실은 겉이 아닌 속이라는 생각이 들었고 이는 마
치 천이나 물로 감추고 있는 진실과 일치한다고 느껴졌다. 그래서 나의 감정들은 만나게 되었다.
감정의 상실이 한데 어우러져 서로 교란을 일으킨다.
우리는 그것을 설명할 수 없고 잡을 수도 없지만, 알고 있으며 느낄 수 있다. 서로 마주보고 충돌하기도 하고 평행을 달려 거부하기도 한다. 교란된 상실이 답을 맗진 않지만 현실과
진실을 표현하고 있다.
이것이 상실을 극복하기 위해 계속해서 소리쳐야 하는 이유이다.
매가 존재하는 동안 할 수 있는 진실이 무엇인지 깨닫게 해주며, 이는 내 존재의 가장 큰 숙제인것 같다.

' Manipulated loss' in the artist note
As long as humans exist, their traces are left and erased.
The traces of materials as well as humans leave impressions, and we remember these at the moment the impressions vanish.
What can we chronicle of these, between worth and worthlessness?
An empty place can be filled only with our memories and thoughts. There is eternity. What I can do for eternity is to leave the existent. I rely on reality and try to express true feelings, but these are all
illusions.
What I first tried to represent was emptiness or a zero-state. No perfect zero exists in the world.
All are effects derived from causes. Strings of connection form the eternally continuing band of cycles.
We make efforts to keep the cycles that never come to an end. Cloth wrapping something is what I have chosen to document the moment.
We cover and wrap with cloth something that is no longer used, or whose life has come to an end. This means covering rather than wrapping. We at times raise the worth of existence by covering
something.
In other sense, cloth also bears verve, be it lust or sexual desire....Cloth is used to veil shameful human desire. Of course, the work of employing cloth as a medium may be limited as a means to convey
meaning. This cloth can be replaced with another material : water and wind that are intangible and beyond capture can be such mediums.
The flower is also an illusion reflecting my other appearance. Despite its extremely beautiful presence, the flower, including its ovary, appears twisted, hiding its elemental desire for propagation.
The flower shows its hideous end after its showy, ardent appearance. This loss is also twofold.
I was once enthusiastic about the flower's splendid, flamboyant beauty as bees or butterflies are riveted by its beauty. I would not admit its end, and could not look straight at vanity,
caused by the loss of its beauty.
In a moment however, I thought all truth is not external but internal, coinciding with truth concealed by cloth or water.
I meet my feelings. The loss of feeling disturbs me : we cannot account for or capture it, but know of and feel it.
A manipulated loss can be a solution that expresses reality and truth.
This is why I have to keep shouting. This makes me realize the truth I can attain while I exist, It is the most significant assignment for my existence.

순수하고 치명적인 (pure and deadly)_남주연 작품
작가의 작업은 패럿튤립과 같은 화려한 꽃을 기본 모티브로 사용하고있다. 화려함의 극치를 달리는 꽃이 은유하는 색들의 찬란함은 순수하고 치명적이다.순수하고 아름다움으로 탄생한 꽃은 생식의 절정과 함께 부재에 대한 허무함을 인지하게 된다.극치의 아름다움이 만들어낸 치명적인 욕망과 영원할 수 없는 존재를 지키고자 하는 허망한 몸부림이 만들어낸 미추 美醜의 양가적 표현이 작가의 작업주제이다.질서를 잉태한 역동상태의 색상과 백색의 무無를 통해 인간존재의 무질서하며 복잡한 양가적 특성을 표현하고 있다.
양가적 에너지 자양분 속에서 미시세계에서 볼 수 있는 오비탈 Orbital 과 같은 입자와 파동의 양자적 형상들로 새 생명들이 탄생되어진다.인간 삶 속 미추를 은유하는 색들의 파동을 통해 우주만물의 근원성을 도출해 내고 있다. [생동(生動)과 역동 (逆動dynamics)]
공(空)과 색(色)은 생동과 역동의 맞물림으로 생기있게 한몸처럼 어울어지며 멈춤을 위한 중첩을 만들어낸다. 이 중첩은 공간속에서 백색의 평형 상태를 만들기위한 파동(波動, wave) 이며 새로운 정령을 응축하기위한 몸부림이다. 혼돈을 기반으로 한 극한의 정적 백색의 공간 무 無 에 다다른 후에야 정령을 잉태할 수 있다.백색은 극한의 평형상태이며, 색의 정령을 창조하기위한 무념 무상의 상태 무이며 탄생의 공간, 잉태를 위한 여백이다.이 순백의 공간은 죽음보다는 생명을 위한 공간이다.
[색의 정령(精靈 spirit of color)과 오비탈 Orbital]백색의 공간, 양가적 혼돈속에서 피어오른 꽃으로부터 잉태된 색에 생명력 즉 정령을 부여하고있다.색의 정령(精靈)은 삼라만상에 깃들어 있는 생명으로 근원적 존재를 의미하며 원 하트 발광체의 형상으로 보인다. 이 형상들은 핵주위를 구성하는 전자의 분포상태인 구형의 오비탈 Orbital 의 형태로 탄생을 의미하는 에너지이며 색의 원형이자 생명의 씨앗이다.

I majored in painting at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts, drew flowers abstracted in their own form and color, and at the same time, I am also a botanical artist who paints realistic images of flowers. I have been active in abstract painting exhibitions and art fairs at home and abroad, and have held exhibitions in Germany, Japan, and China as a botanical artist after completing the Flora Academy expert course at Seoul Women's University. From 2009 to present, Hyundai Department Store Cultural Center has been teaching botanical art and landscape sketches.
Flowers have the most outstanding formative beauty of objects that implicitly contain human appearance, and the process of creation and extinction has long been an artistic material compared to human life circulating in nature. For me, flowers are a medium that gives me the pleasure of drawing the highest of splendor and beauty.
The work of showing and expressing myself through the medium of flowers makes me think a lot about the existence and value of flowers. From a botanical perspective, the flowers are observed, recorded and reproduced, and then tried to see what was beyond them. Beyond that, our life's appearance, ideas, customs, and thoughts are included to create new flowers. It is the process of feeling the loss of emotion in the instinct behind the colorful background and the falling appearance, and recording the loss of passion created in the absence. Vanitas Vanite, or the futility of life, is told by flowers and plants that are closest or easiest to see. The instincts behind the sparkling scenes and the way they are brushed aside can also cause emotional loss. It is a process of recording and trying to record losses with the passion created in the absence, and an attempt to create a different perspective on the world beyond the reproduction of nature.
I want to express the nature of human existence through flowers.
남주연은
홍익대학교 미술대학원에서 회화를 전공하고 독자적인 작가 고유의 형태와 색으로 추상화된 꽃을 그리고 있으며, 동시에 꽃의 사실적인 모습을 그리는 보타니컬 아트 작가로도 활동하고 있다. 국내외 추상회회 전시와 아트페어 등 활발한 활동을 하고 있으며,서울여자대학교 플로라 아카데미 전문가 과정를 이수한 후 보타니컬 아티스트로서 국내는 물론, 독일, 일본, 중국 등에서 전시회를 개최해왔다. 2009년부터 현재까지 현대백화점 문화센터에서 보타니컬 아트와 풍경 스케치에 관한 강의를 하고 있다.
꽃은 자연의 질서를 조화롭게 이룬 존재로 인간의 모습을 함축적으로 담고 있는 오브제 중 가장 빼어난 조형적 아름다움을 갖고 있으며, 생성과 소멸되는 과정은 자연속에서 순환하는 인간의 삶과 비유되며 오랫동안 예술적 소재가 되어 왔다. 나에게도 꽃은 화려함과 아름다움의 극치를 그리는 쾌감을 안겨주는 매개체이다.
꽃이라는 매개를 통해 나를 보여주고 표현하는 작업은 꽃의 존재와 가치에 대해 많은 생각을 하게 한다. 식물학적 관점에서 꽃 그대로의 모습을 관찰하고 기록하며 재현한 후, 그 너머의 모습을 보고자 노력한다. 그 너머에는 우리 인생의 모습과 관념, 관습과 생각들이 포함되어 새로운 꽃을 만들어낸다. 화려한 이면 뒤에 숨겨진 본능과 쓰러져 가는 모습에서 감정의 상실을 느끼며, 부재 속에서 생겨난 열정의 손실을 기록하는 과정이다. 바니타스 Vanite 즉, 인생의 허무함을 가장 가깝게 또는 쉽게 볼 수 있는 꽃과 식물을 통해 이야기하고 있다. 반짝이는 장면 뒤에 숨겨진 본능과 그것들이 옆으로 스쳐가는 방식도 감정의 손실을 야기할 수 있다. 부재 속에서 생겨난 열정으로 손실을 기록하고 노력하는 과정이며, 자연의 재현을 넘은 세상에 대한 다른 시각을 만들어내려는 시도다.
나는 꽃을 통해 인간 존재의 본성을 표현하고자 한다.
